Career Experience
I loved English class when I was a kid. I especially loved talking with my friends about our school essays and helping them find places to improve. I helped with grammar, transitions, tone, and argument. In college, I worked as a Writing Tutor helping undergraduates develop and express deeper ideas within their writing. During that role, I underwent training provided by my school, which combined my passion for tutoring with proven pedagogy. My approach involves asking the right questions to spark new ideas. Time and again, I've seen students who believe they're no good at writing. They think they have no new ideas to be discovered, and no way to express them. But in every single case, I show them that that's not true. Everyone has ideas, and everyone can write—it just takes a little confidence and help to get started. Building student confidence is a priority of mine, as is getting students excited about their writing.
I Love Tutoring Because
it brings me a deep sense of satisfaction. Solid reading and writing skills form the foundation of all of our lifelong learning, but for some students, the strict rules of English become an obstacle to that foundation. I can explain those bizarre rules, how they work, and why they exist. I can help give students that "a-ha" moment they're missing. And ultimately, I can help students feel more confident and comfortable in the classroom, which will have an enormous effect on their entire educational lives.
